Club Policies
Membership Requirements
Alleghany Gentlemen is a social club of senior men. Women cannot be members but may attend club events as guests, when a specific event is so designated by its organizer. Membership is not restricted by race, religion, political affiliation, or age.
To become and remain a member, a man must be current with his dues payment and conduct himself in a gentlemanly fashion.
There are no member attendance requirements, although the more active a member becomes, the more benefit he gains.
Steering Committee
The Steering Committee performs the management function of the club and is the final
decision-maker for Alleghany Gentleman, although issues may be brought to the
membership at a lunch meeting for decision by majority vote of those attending.
The committee is composed of the President, who chairs its meetings, Vice President,
Treasurer, Membership Director, Communications Director, Speaker Program Director,
and Webmaster. Each position is held on a calendar year basis, as follows:
-
The President serves for one year.
-
The Vice President replaces the outgoing President at the end of the year and
serves as President for the following year.
-
Each Fall, the Vice President leads a group of members he selects to nominate
men to positions on the Steering Committee for the following year.
-
Nominees are voted on by the members attending the last lunch meeting each
year.
-
The outgoing President remains on the Steering Committee for the year following
his term. The outgoing President may serve in other positions on the Steering
Committee, but not as VP.
-
All other Steering Committee positions are held for one year but are not limited to
a single term; members may be elected to a position more than once and a
member may serve simultaneously in multiple Steering Committee positions.
Interest Groups
The interest groups decide all questions about the functioning of their group so long as
the group operates in an ethical manner that upholds the purposes of Alleghany
Gentlemen. All expenses resulting from an interest group’s activities are paid by the
members of that group and shall not be supported by general Club funds.
Business Solicitation
To preserve the social and recreational focus of the club, members shall not solicit business, promote professional services, or engage in any form of commercial "pitching" to other members during club activities, events, or on club premises. This includes unsolicited offers, distribution of business materials, or direct requests for professional engagements.
